Meyer was a fashion industry leader remembered for his interest in labor reform issues, including minimum wage, worker's compensation and working conditions. His interest in education led to his role in the establishment of the Central High School of Needle Trades and Fashion Institute of Technology. Born in New York, Hannah Troy worked as a model, sketcher and fashion designer before starting her own womenswear business. After determining that regardless of heighth, the average American woman was short-waisted, she introduced a line called "Troy Petites" that fit many women without alterations. Her petite sizing was later adopted as a standard in the fashion industry.
